A whopping $34,845 was raised by UniLodge @ ANU at their exciting charity art auction held on Thursday 1 September. This is the 2nd charity art auction that the group of properties has held, the first which raised $12,000 for Red Frogs Australia in July 2015.

As keen supporters of philanthropy and community giving, UniLodge @ ANU wanted to provide a fun and engaging event for students and residents while giving back to charity. Over the past year, ANU and UC students volunteered their time to paint on giant 48″x60″ canvases in support of the event. Their gorgeous works of art were the talk of the town on the night, with the generous bidding exceeding all expectations!

The auction was held in support of Red Frogs Australia, a support network of young people across Australia which provides hydration stations, red frog lolly giveaways, coffee crawls, board game nights and free pancake days which are a hit with UniLodge residents.

Andy Gourley, Founder of Red Frogs was thrilled at the success of the event and said the funds will go towards employing a new team member for student leader training and festival support.

“The charity art auction was an amazing night – the UniLodge team set a new Australian record for a student accommodation fund raise!!  The total is almost three times more than the prior record held by Melbourne.  What does this mean for Red Frogs and our work in helping young people?  This single fundraising event will enable us to employ a part time team member to fast track our efforts in student leader training and festival support. We hold over 85 events in Canberra and ACT each year to over 60,000 students and the money raised by UniLodge will help fund the annual operations and support of the ACT Red Frog program in universities, music festivals, sporting events and high school presentations.   This is really meaningful work  A big thanks to UniLodge,” he said.

The night was a huge success with 100 guests in attendance, including the ANU community, the artists and their guests, UniLodge staff and residents, the Red Frogs crew and members of the local community.

Congratulations to Lachlan Vild, who won $1000 for the People’s Choice award for his artwork, “Coming Out of the Shadows”! His meaningful work of art was an inspiration to us all.

Thank you to all the wonderful artists, their guests, Red Frogs, the wonderful suppliers and contractors who contributed to the night, along with Lerida Estate Wines, Palace Electric Cinemas, and LJ Hooker Kippax for donating prizes on the night. Jonathan Davis from LJ Hooker Kippax made it a fun and entertaining night for all as the auctioneer.

Over 1970 students call UniLodge @ ANU home, which provides modern student accommodation across four sites – Davey Lodge, Warrumbul Lodge, Kinloch Lodge and Lena Karmel Lodge.
