What is near Campus West at the University of Canberra?

If you’re new to Canberra and have no idea what is around, this might give you some ideas of things to do with your new university friends.

Entertainment

Zone Bowling: Grab some friends and go bowling one afternoon. Arcade games, bowling, bumper cars and a little cafe all just a 5 minute walk from UniLodge @ UC – Campus West.  

Lake Ginninderra: Just down the road from campus west you can enjoy your free time going on a stroll or picnic around the Lake. Lots of Canberrans love to come here for a weekend picnic or bike ride and enjoy the trees and the sunshine. There are many different areas and public facilities around the lake that have picnic tables, barbecues, wharfs and playgrounds. There is also a skatepark if that takes your fancy. 

Hoyts: Catch the newest movies at Hoyts Cinema at the Westfield in Belconnen.

Good places to eat

On UC campus we have a variety of food options including, Oscars bakery, Coffee Ground, The Well, Mizzuna Cafe, Dominos, Double K, Global Kitchen, and Nomad. These are great places if you don’t feel like cooking or having to go far to get a bite to eat. However, if you feel like exploring, here are a few options close by:

The Lighthouse: Do you like to end the day with a beer and pub meal? Then this popular Aussie style pub on the lake at Belconnen could be just what you are looking for. It is found to be a very social place especially on a Friday and Saturday night. You can get a range of pub classic meals, such as a chicken parmi or a steak, and get a drink from the bar.

Chong Co: A friendly Thai Restaurant, located on Lathlain Street, at the top of the Westfield Belconnen. They serve a variety of delicious Thai meals. Meals cost roughly around $20-$25.

Goodberries: Have a sweet tooth? Goodberries Frozen Custard is the place to go. An American diner vibe, where you can catch up with friends to discuss the antics of a week. Their trademark is the delicious concretes which you choose a frozen custard base (chocolate or Vanilla) and blend in sweets, fudges, fruits, nuts and more. Visit Goodberries at 4/25 Lathlain St, Belconnen.

Ricardo’s Café: Just down the road at the Jamison Plaza, there is a friendly and beautiful locally owned café called Ricardo’s. It is a great place to have a coffee, grab some afternoon tea or have lunch. They have a range of breakfast and lunch foods, along with some outstanding colourful cakes and pastries.

Shopping

Westfield shopping mall is just a quick 10-15-minute walk from Campus West. It has of your shopping needs in the one place. Our students often do their basic shop at this Westfield. There is every type of store from retail, grocery, restaurants, salons, pharmacies, banks, and more. It is roughly a $10-$15 Uber ride away from Campus West if you need to get all your shopping back without having to carry it.
