Taylor tells us all about her experience being the Residential Advisor at UniLodge @ UC - Campus West.
What do you like most about your role?
I am a bit of a social butterfly – I love getting to meet all the students who live with us and chatting to them about anything and everything! The Res Life Program is fantastic for this too as I get to chat while helping at the BBQ or running one of our many social events.
Why is the Residential Life Program so important for residents?
Over the last 2 years, I have seen time and time again that students who have travelled from rural areas or from overseas thrive when they attend the Res. Life Program events. It gives them the opportunity to meet new people and create some fantastic memories.
What has been your favourite Res Life Event during your time as a Residential Advisor?
One of the best events that I have been a part of was the Commencement Ball at the beginning of Semester 1, 2020. It was held at the National Arboretum here in Canberra and literally all the residents from UniLodge @ UC went. There was a professional photographer, a three-course meal, live music, and everyone dressed to the nines! Was such a ball!
What are you studying and where?
I am currently in the middle of a double degree in Exercise and Sports Science/Sports Management at the University of Canberra.
Do you have any advice/comments for new students?
The best advice I got given as a new student was to take advantage of all the events possible. I took that to heart and have had a fantastic couple of years. My advice to new students is to not be afraid to get out and socialise in your first semester on campus. It will get you a great circle of friends and set you up for the next few years of your life (maybe longer)!
