Brisbane is a vibrant city packed with plenty of things to do. Be sure to head into South Bank, Brisbane’s ultimate lifestyle and cultural hotspot. Here you can visit the Queensland Museum and Science Centre to see science, culture and nature exhibits. And don’t miss a dip in South Bank’s Streets Beach, Australia’s only inner-city, manmade beach. On a beautiful day (and let’s face it, Brisbane has plenty of them), the Botanic Gardens are well worth a visit, with gorgeous plant life to admire and a number of enviable picnic spots to nab.

The St Lucia area is a hub for uni students to hang out in, with an abundance of cheap eats and green spaces to hang out in. Just down the road from the UQ campus on Hawken Drive is an array of dining options, perfect for grabbing a bite to eat after a big day of classes.

You can travel to and from QUT Gardens Point by bus, train, CityCat (ferry) or on foot, depending on the location of your accommodation. The campus has its own CityCat stop and is a short walk from Central and South Bank train stations, and King George Square and Queen Street bus stations. QUT students who cycle to campus can access secure bike racks, lockers and showers.

While it’s not quite as busy as Sydney or Melbourne, it still has everything you’ll need to enjoy your university years. Between classes, you can bask in the sunshine at the South Bank Parklands, explore the City Botanic Gardens, or grab a bite to eat at one of the international restaurants in Fortitude Valley – home of Brisbane’s Chinatown.

If you feel like hitting the beach on your days off from uni, the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast take around an hour to reach by train.
