Each semester we provide a ‘home away from home’ for more than 14,000 students across our UniLodge properties.
Due to our experience, gained over 20 years of operation, and our reputation as market leader and as people who genuinely care and love what we do, parents can rest assured that UniLodge is the right choice when seeking a home for their son or daughter in Australia or New Zealand.
We understand that for most parents this is an exciting yet traumatic time. We know that you want the best accommodation option for your son/daughter. Let us help!
Reasons why parents choose UniLodge
Our accommodation is:
Need to contact us?
Parents are welcome to contact the Manager at the property where your son or daughter is living. Contact details are available on the Contact Us section.
Parents, rest assured that your son/daughter is living in a secure environment. All UniLodge properties offer a high level of security to ensure our residents feels safe and comfortable. Our properties meet all Australian and New Zealand safety standards and legislation. As part of their welcome orientation, residents are briefed on the processes of how to respond in emergencies.
Residents are provided with their own access key/card which provides them with entry to the building, lifts, and their apartment. All entrances to each property are locked outside of business hours. At majority of our properties there is an after-hours Residential Advisor on site who is able to help residents with any problems that may occur overnight – for example if they have locked themselves out of their room or the building. Some city centre properties also have after-hours Security who completes regular patrols around the property.
The rent includes the occupancy of the room/apartment. Any additional inclusions will depend on the property, please refer to the property website, specifically the Pricing Page for more information. See below for what items your son/daughter will be required to bring with them.
We understand that many residents feel more comfortable sharing an apartment with the same gender. We will first try to allocate apartments on a one sex approach. If residents wish to share with family or with friends then they just need to let us know and we will try to accommodate.
Yes, they are able to check in any time after the contract start date, however your son/daughter are responsible for the Occupancy Fees from the contract start date. If they are arriving after-hours one of our Residential Advisors will be available to check them in to their room. We encourage your son/daughter to let us know if they will be arriving after-hours so we can ensure that the Residential Advisor is aware of their arrival. Please note that after hours check in is not available at all properties. Please confirm with the Property manager.
To ensure a smooth check in, they will need to bring their Condition of Enrolment form, Passport or Licence and a copy of their Visa (if applicable).
All of our properties are fully furnished. Further inclusions depend on the room type and the property. Refer to the Fact Sheet on the property webpage for more details.
They will need to bring:
• Linen, towels, kitchen crockery and cutlery. Available from Your Shop – see below.
• Personal items, clothes, personal computer, books, music etc.
• Consumables/toiletries; soap, shampoo, etc.
We know as a parent that you want to make sure your son/daughter has an easy transition from moving away from home, and at UniLodge we aim to ensure that the well-being of our residents is our number one priority. This is one reason why we offer Your Shop:
www.yourshop.unilodge.com.au. Your Shop is currently only available to our Australian properties.
Your Shop is a convenient and an easy way for your son/daughter to buy essentials such as linen and kitchen items before they move in to their apartment.
The linen packs include come in a variety of bed sizes. The staff will confirm via the booking process the size of the bed within the apartment so that your son/daughter knows which size they should order. Details of each pack is available on line.
Not only is it an easy process to order online, but the packs arrive directly to the UniLodge property and staff place the pack in the apartment before your son/daughter checks in. This means your son/daughter doesn’t need to bring these items with them from overseas or interstate (more room in their suitcase to pack their other necessities such as photos of mum and dad!) and it means that they don’t need to rush out to a department store and carry all of these heavy and bulky items with them back to their apartment.
In addition, any of our packs and items on Your Shop can be purchased throughout their stay at UniLodge – so if after a year your son/daughter would like some new fresh linen, your son/daughter can purchase a new pack from Your Shop and once again we will deliver the pack directly to their room – doesn’t get much easier than that!
As young adults many of our residents enjoy putting their culinary skills to the test and that is why all of our properties either have kitchens within the apartment or a common area kitchen where residents can cook up a feast with their friends or prepare a quick snack. So Mum & Dad, now is a great time to pass down any yummy family recipes! Our UniLodge properties don’t offer a catered option apart from UniLodge on A’Beckett in Melbourne where there is an onsite restaurant that provides catered meals for residents. Majority of our properties are in fantastic locations and therefore are surrounded by cafes and restaurants.
We understand that not settling in can be tough, which is why each of our properties have a dedicated Customer Service Manager and Property Manager to assist residents with any issues or problems they may experience. The Property Manager will discuss the issues with the residents and try to reach a mutual outcome. If there is availability, your son/daughter may request to move rooms.
One of the stand out features of our UniLodge properties is our Community Spirit Program (CSP). The program not only offers a great range of events, but it allows our residents to mix and mingle which is a great relief for many parents who may worry that their son/daughter will be lonely in their new environment.
The CSP events include a wide range of activities and trips to cater to a wide range of residents. We encourage our residents to provide us with feedback as to what events they would like to see organised.
Events include day trips to some of Australia & New Zealand’s most iconic locations – for example:
• Adelaide - get up close with the animals at Manarto Zoo, visit the famous Barossa Wineries.
• Brisbane – enjoy a day at theme parks such as Dreamworld, Seaworld and Movie World, surfing lessons on the Gold Coast.
• Canberra - skiing in the mountains; a visit to the amazing Museums.
• Melbourne – see the 12 Apostles and the Great Ocean Road, visit the Penguins at Phillip Island, watch the Grad Prix racing cars, or dig for Gold in Ballarat.
• Sydney - visit the animals at Taronga Zoo, or climb the Sydney Harbour Bridge!
• New Zealand – skiing on the New Zealand slopes.
In addition to the above, our staff organise a Welcome BBQ at the start of each semester, regular events in-house such as movie nights and international food nights.
Our friendly trained team at Reception are happy to answer all questions and assist your son/daughter during office hours. Outside of office hours, the Residential Advisor is available to help where possible and can be contacted on the after-hours phone number provided to your son/daughter upon check-in.
From time to time you may wish to post your son/daughter a small care package from home. To ensure that the package reaches them, all mail directed to your son/daughter must include:
Street number and name
Suburb, City and Postal Code
The delivery addresses for each of our properties is available on our property webpages, including the property Fact Sheet and in our Resident Handbook.
As a parent we understand that your main priority is the safety and well being of your son or daughter. At UniLodge we work towards the same goal. To ensure the safety of our residents it is essential that we know when residents are away for extended periods of time or when they have overnight guests. Having this information on hand allows UniLodge Management to effectively coordinate the emergency response. An Overnight Absence Form and Visitor Form are available at reception for them to complete and hand in to our reception staff.
On behalf of the Owner of the apartment, a Bond is collected and forwarded to the Government at the commencement of every tenancy. It is explained to residents that in order to receive a full Bond refund that the apartment is to be returned to UniLodge in the same condition as when they first moved in – we do understand that general wear and tear does happen. The Bond will only be returned after: all rent, additional departure cleaning costs, and any utility charges are paid in full; the room/apartment inspection confirms no damage; all items are accounted for (furniture and furnishings); the apartment is left in a clean and tidy condition.
